"President Bush (news - web sites) raised the possibility Thursday that any Iraqi weapons of mass destruction were destroyed before or during the U.S.-led war, suggesting for the first time that coalition troops may come up empty in their search. "

I recall some people asking about whether those skeptical of Bush would be big enough to apologize "once" the WMDs had been produced. I find myself now wondering if they themselves will be big enough to cop to having been played like a piano.

In case anyone missed it, if it turns out that WMDs had indeed been destroyed before the invasion, then Bush and company lied to everyone and we're left with empire building as the reason for this war.

We told you so.

Hell no! Look, you can keep on trying to find something forever. Just because we haven't found it in one month doesn't mean we won't find it in 6 months. Or a year. Or ten years. Hell, if you really want to find something, just grab the chlorine tablets from somebody's pool chemicals and a couple of bottle of ammonia. Voila, you have the precursors to a chemical weapon!

In fact, the idea that "we know they're there, we just haven't found them yet" would provide perfect justification to keep troops in-country permanently.

Remember all the talk about "mobile chemical weapons labs?" Not one has turned up. Not very mobile.
