Please forgive the length, my LJ Cuts appear not to be working.

So here I am in Mexicali learning how TV sets are made and teaching them how to make 'em securely.

Beautiful, sunny Mexicali, where one doesn't leave the factories and warehouses to go see the pretty things in the area, they ARE the pretty things in the area.

At least the drive from San Diego was pretty.

I so don't want to be here. I so want to be home, where I have a comfortable bed and devoted girl to snuggle.

Foundstone is a big-name security consulting group. Their "hacker training" is very popular amongst the corporate "white-hat" set. They've been having some credibility problems lately.

The first one was pretty bad -- it was reported that they were habitually ignoring software licensing requirements left and right, which is a no-no.

It was reported on Fucked Company today that their Marketing people are encouraging their tech staff to post anonymously to security mailing lists to hype their products." For bonus points, included are tips and sample scripts on how to make it look like it's an honest endorsement from a colleague instead of marketing screed.

Oboy! Another warcrime!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54345-2003Jul27.html

"Col. David Hogg, commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, said tougher methods are being used to gather the intelligence. On Wednesday night, he said, his troops picked up the WIFE AND DAUGHTER of an Iraqi lieutenant general. They left a note: 'If you want your family released, turn yourself in.'"

I've got news for some of y'all. The fact that a tactic is effective does not make it right. This one's downright illegal...

In the case of armed conflict not of an international character occurring in the territory of one of the High Contracting Parties, each Party to the conflict shall be bound to apply, as a minimum, the following provisions:

The Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 3 Section b

"1. Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.

"To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:

"(b) Taking of hostages"

Unless he lied to the newspaper or they're lying, the only support I have for Colonel David Hogg, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, the man responsible for this war crime is the support that comes at the end of a rope tied to a gallows following a court martial. I do not support any soldier under Col. Hogg's Command who failed to refuse to carry out his unlawful order to kidnap civilians in violation of the Geneva Conventions. So long as this criminal is not held accountable for his crimes, no member of the 4th Infantry Division or its second Brigade can count himself to be serving honorably. This is not a soldier, this is a thug. In fact, he is a terrorist, and the United States is a terrorist nation if it stands by him in this matter.

I have been a personal friend of David Hogg since he went to West Point. He is one of the nicest, most likeable persons I have ever met! He was always kind and considerate and was one of the most liked individuals at West Point. I (being a female) thought he was a great guy...soon to be a great soldier. He is a wonderful leader and a moral, upstanding american. Why aren't you over there fighting instead of doing this? My, how brave you are to run a website...!!!
