Under a Violet Moon
Aug. 17th, 2003 02:59 amWe went to New York Ren Faire today. We'll be going back tomorrow, and probably a number of times for the balance of the season.
It was an amazing day for seeing old friends. Bill Seligman, one of my oldest friends, is working there and we got to catch up for the first time in 4 years. That part I was expecting.
What I didn't expect was someone to call out "Dio?" from behind me. Dio was my nickname in college. The story is that my first weekend there we were partying as you might expect people to party someplace where beer is $5/case -- which is to say we were shitfaced. I happened to be wearing a Dio concert t-shirt from The Last In Line tour, and no one could remember that my name was Dan. Heck, if someone could remember their own name, they were doing pretty well that night. But they could read my chest. The name stuck.
So I turned around, and who do I see but John Colon, a wonderful man with whom I went to college. We did a bit of catching up. (Note to Antioch folks who haven't spoken to him in a while: he's married. More info once we've had a chance to catch up more.) I gave him my card and am now waiting for him to write me so we can start getting together.
And just in time for my rolemaster campaign to pick up again, too... he still has fond memories of the games I ran in college. That's always a good feeling.
Then I get home and find out that two other friends of mine have discovered livejournal:
eberg and
uncacreamy.
Tired. Sleep. More faire tomorrow, then come home and cook a goose. Mmmm. Goose salad. Goose stock for soups. Goose sandwiches. Goose fat as a cooking agent. Mmmm.
