Re: Comparisons to Bush and Hitler
Please brief me on your avtivities over the last 12 years decrying this. And this. And this. Oh, yes, don't forget a bullet point or twa on this. An appendix on this, if it's not too much trouble. Including this.
I'm sure my desk will struggle under the burden of the descriptions of all the work that has gone into making sure the right, even though it's allegedly reputable organs, isn't comparing anyone to Hitler. After all, that'd be the only way that the complaints that someone submitted ads comparing Bush to Hitler to MoveOn's site would be anything but rank hypocricy. Let alone falsely attributing those ads as MoveOn's own positions.
Of course, if y'all haven't been as active as you might have been, I can make some suggestions for how you might implement your newfound distaste for comparing people to Hitler friviously. Most of them are even now legal in Georgia and Texas both.

It's not really an invidious comparison
(Anonymous) 2004-01-09 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)As I wrote to the folks at MoveOn when they announced the start of the RNC's smear campaign, while I'm dismayed that people with absolutely no historical understanding are perpetuating a lie, I can't agree that nobody has any business comparing Duh-bya to Hitler.
I want to make it absolutely clear that I'm not attempting to suggest that Bush is a genocidal maniac, or to trivialize the enormity of Hitler's crimes. I'm not even trying to suggest that Bush's crimes, heinous though they are, are commensurate with Hitler's.
However, speaking as a graduate student in history whose specialty is in modern Europe and specifically the period from 1914-1945, I have to say that the parallels between the Bush regime and Hitler's are truly scary. Hitler had the Reichstag fire. Bush had the World Trade Center/Pentagon attacks. Both men used the respective tragedies to militarize the societies they controlled, to silence dissent, and to suppress or annull whole swaths of the constitution then in force. Both men are (were) right-wing ideologues, virulently nationalist, largely politically inept, and totally convinced that God is guiding their hand.
I hope to Ha-Shem that (a) Bush is wrong on that last count, and (b) the similarities between the two regimes go no further.
