Past instances of things like this said "humiliation" instead of "humiity." I suspect too many congresscritters have flashbacks at the world "humiliation" resulting in odd smiles and odder bulges in their trouser line for that word to get used much in public nowadays.
They did NOT! I can't believe this. I truly can't believe this. I saw that resolution and laughed because it felt so absurd. My administrative assistant had to keep telling me that it wasn't a hoax.
So, what's the ACLU doing??? And even though I no longer live in the US (I'm in the UK -- married to a British man), I rejoined Americans United for Separation of Church and State (http://www.au.og). I was a member in the US.
I don't see anything on their web page yet. I'm uncertain that there is anything to be done, since the resolution makes no law, but merely requests the President to issue a proclamation saying that a given day will be a day of prayer. No law, no first amendment violation.
Some friends are already having an orgy/big meal with French wine/cheese. We'll probably just do the big meal and French food part, hopefully as a party.
I wonder if I could get to Calais for the day and grocery shop. Hrm.
Murray's Cheese Shop reports that they continue to carry French cheese despite complaints from some of their less clueful customers. They are amused to note that often, said customers will go home with a wedge of Brie after complaining about Murray's not boycotting French cheese.

P.S. LiveJournal means never having to say "Dude, where you been for the past X years?!" Hi Dan. Nice to hear from you again. :)
