I've been seeing it put forth in a number of places that now that Bush has been elected(I wonder when the novelty will wear off for him...), everyone who voted against him has to "get behind him," "unite behind him," "bend over and squeal like a pig," or some other nonsense. You can tell there's no hypocracy there, too, from how they lined up to get behind Clinton.

As the saying goes, this is what democracy looks like. We don't have to unite with those whose policies we find abhorrent. We don't have to get behind the President. The beautiful thing about the United States, the whole basis for our ability to call ourselves a free society with a straight face, is that we have the Constitutional right and sacred duty to spend every day of the next four years fighting the President tooth and nail at the federal, state, and local levels.

If Bush wants to unite the country, the question in my subject line is addressed to him. But surrender? Not this lifetime.

Amen, amen...and good rant.

>bend over and squeal like a pig

You don't even know how much I needed that laugh. Thank you for that.

Speaking of squealing like a pig

I shouldn't laugh at this. It's terrible. But it's about the only thing I can do at the moment.
